Style ID Africa Turns Community Mapping Into a New Audience Strategy Tool

Style ID Africa Turns Community Mapping Into a New Audience Strategy Tool. Style ID Africa used the Nedbank IMC 2026 marketing conference to explore how community identity can provide businesses with insights into their audiences through its Shift Happens community mapping activation.

Held during the one-day conference, the activation invited marketing professionals, brand leaders and creative practitioners to identify the community they most closely associated with.

The experience centred on a five-panel Community Mapping Wall featuring Fitness, Style, Beauty, Tech and Pioneer communities. Each community was defined by values, traits and cultural identity rather than demographic categories or purchasing behaviour.

Delegates could also take part in the Find Your Community game by selecting five statements from a shuffled set of 15 without seeing the community labels. Their responses were then compared with their initial perception of which community they identified with.

According to the activation data, Fitness accounted for 27% of participants, followed by Pioneer at 22%, Beauty at 21%, Style at 17% and Tech at 13%.

A live results screen displayed the community totals during the conference. Style ID Africa also used a podcast corner to record delegate reactions for its Business of Influence podcast, while a winners wall highlighted community participation.

The podcast featured interviews with marketing figures including Thato Lekgetha from Volkswagen, Greg Maloka from Kaya FM and Tarryn Knight from Ford South Africa. Discussions focused on community intelligence, brand strategy, content direction and audience relationships in Africa.

The activation also formed part of broader discussions at the conference around purpose and business. Conn Bertish, founder of The Creative Resiliency Group, delivered a keynote titled “Happy Purposeful Businesses Are Harder to Kill”, focusing on the role of purpose in businesses and teams.

Reabaka Moeletsi, senior strategist at Style ID Africa, said the session highlighted the importance of businesses remaining grounded in their brand ethics, values and goals while building collaborative and people-driven ecosystems.
