South African Start-Up BAOM Aims To Be A Solution To Pollution

South African Start-Up BAOM Aims To Be A Solution To Pollution. BAOM was born in Melian Dott’s kitchen in 2018 and expanded into her parent’s garage in 2020 when lock down forced her to focus on the invention. A couple of highly impactful scientists, a move to Cape Town, a co-founder, an officially registered company, a grant from UVU Bio and a few high-impact accelerator programs, suddenly BAOM was a hot topic.

BAOM is raising funds for its initial outlay to expand its production capabilities, a macro lab facility to ensure continued, smooth and efficient R&D and of course, team onboarding. The company is strategically positioning itself in a supportive and enabling community of mentors, investors and partners.

The company aims to achieve global domination with a revolution of the packaging industry or the plastic pollution industry. It sees itself as a solution to pollution. BAOM’s business potential and film applications are widespread so there are multiple avenues it will expand into. The company is on a journey to help create a healthier future for people, the planet and wildlife without impacting modern convenience!

Melian Dott is the brains behind the product development that gave birth to the business. Raised on nature reserves by conservationist parents, Melian witnessed first-hand how litter crept into the most pristine spaces of the country. As a self-taught scientist with a criminal psychology and drama background, she believes people are only as limited to creating change as they tell themselves. She used lockdown as her time to focus on her passion for resolving plastic pollution and progressed BAOM forward.

Chloe Cormack is the connecting communicator and business developer with a knack for bringing every sector one can think of to the magic of BAOM. Chloe was also raised in a conservationist family and has always had a passion for bringing attention to socio-environmental issues. Her formal background in journalism, media production, teaching and social anthropology led her to shift her career focus to what she was truly passionate about, making a large-scale impact. After upskilling in lockdown and leveraging her sales experience, she stepped into the corporate space of Climate Change Consulting and Sustainable Project Management enabling her to be well-positioned to take BAOM to the next level.
