A Taste Of The Sweet Botswana Produced Kalahari Honey
A taste of the sweet Botswana produced Kalahari Honey. Botswana’s climate has been changing rapidly in recent years and has become more and more unpredictable. Not only that, but the economy also experiences shifts of occasional inconsistencies, forcing more and more Batswana to look into means of self sustenance.
Mavis Nduchwa, is the owner and founder of Chabana Farms, and is making a profitable living through agriculture.Nduchwa supplies in bulk, honey and its by-products such as honey wine, which was added to their list of products not too long ago. The company also trains and supplies aspiring beekeepers with equipment, and further assists them with finding clients.
Nduchwa’s passion led her to take the route less travelled in agriculture, and pursued beekeeping and honey production. The idea was fueled by an immediate need to empower communities using agriculture as a tool more especially women and the youth. The company has secured a reasonable potion of the local market and also exports to Lesotho and Namibia with a recent addition of the United States of America to their list. This is evidence that the company has been well received and will continue to perform well in the agricultural sector.
The main reason the company manages to stay ahead of other similar companies is because of their unique product. They provide a rare Kalahari honey, which is very high in antioxidants, used by people of the Kalahari for generations, making it a product of high demand. Their attractive packaging also plays a role in selling the brand.
The company took the first position in the women-owned business and pride mark user category at the recent Grand Thornton Private Business Growth Awards. Nduchwa has won the Most Outstanding African Entrepreneur award before at the Tony Elumelu foundation and featured as a judge on the 2019 BBC Food Chain Global Champion Award.
