The ambitious fellow with a heart of gold has had to dip into his own savings, with the Covid-19 crisis, to fund his teaching practice to avoid it sinking into the mud. Age is no limiting factor and being in his early twenties has not prevented Katlego from re-writing destiny for the underprivileged young people around him.

Katlego Thwane, born and bred in South Africa’s lively township of Soweto, is an educator and founder of the ‘Atlegang Bana’ Foundation that caters to primary school learners who struggle to keep up at school and need additional help. His foundation also provides for needy learners from underprivileged backgrounds. Furthermore, Katlego ensures that the students feel encouraged towards the start of every new year.

Katlego has many awards under his sleeve and accolades for his work, as a 2017 Young Community Shaper, 2018 Lead SA hero and featuring on live television show Big Up on SABC Mzansi in 2018. For Katlego, teaching has always been a passion and this is further fueled by his desire for positive change.

In addition to his amazing work, Katlego has recently established a clothing brand, BANA, under the Atlegang Bana Foundation and goes out of his way to donate food parcels to the community in conjunction with Hollywoodbets. His actions are driven by the reality brought about by the pandemic causing parents to lose jobs and experience salary cuts making it difficult to sustain their households like before.

Due to new regulations, most schools continue operating online because learners haven’t as yet returned to school, however, this has come with its share of setbacks. Katlego has had to use his personal funds to purchase data for tutors for teaching virtually. It is generally challenging however Thwane powers on, in anticipation of a better tomorrow, for himself and his country.
