  2. Thier slopes rise from about 200m to nearly 400m above sea level.
  3. DeMorgenzon meaning ‘the morning sun,’ was named that because it is the first part of the Stellenboschkloof valley to see the sun because of its high altitude and aspects.
  4. It covers the top southern and eastern slopes of Ribbokkop, overlooking the pinnacle of Kanonkop.
  5. In 2003 Wendy and Hylton Appelbaum bought DeMorgenzon and have since transformed DeMorgenzon into a garden vineyard.
  6. De Morgenzon once formed part of Uiterwyk which was one of the oldest farms in the country.
  7. The estate produces eight wines, two which are made from estate grapes bottled under the De Morgenzon label and the rest from grapes brought in from various sites under the DMZ label.
  8. The De Morgenzon wines are the Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay.
  9. The DMZ range has a Rose, a Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, a Chenin Blanc, Shiraz and a Rhone style blend called the Concerto.
  10. They are said to be heavy weights in the wine making industry.
