Five Styles Of Leadership In Business!
Every organisation has a leader who displays their own style of leadership. Leaders possess varied and unique qualities that they bring about in their chosen project at work. It is unrealistic for juniors to expect their senior leaders to fit one dimensional and typical leadership style, when there are so many to play around with.
Of course there are pros and cons to each style, hence some are effective at certain workspaces (depending on the employees, of course), whilst some just don’t work.
1.Autocratic Leadership Style:
Most employees usually find this style of leadership quite intimidating and demoralising. What usually happens here is that, team members are often overlooked for any input, hence the leader thrives on gaining total control over decisions in the workplace.
2.Democratic Leadership Style:
This style of leadership is largely considered as the
opposite of autocratic leadership. In a sense that, leaders involve team members in the decision making process. Even though the leader makes the final decision after perusing through everyone’s input.
3.Laissez – Faire Leadership Style:
The leader leaves the decision making to the team, as opposed to gathering the varied inputs of the team and thus making the decision. Effective and highly skilled employees ,who need little guidance to do their work thrive effortlessly under this kind of leadership in the workplace.
Transactional Leadership Style:
Rigid and structures are what these leaders are all about. Clear instructions and repercussions are thoroughly communicated. The disadvantage is that employees might feel stifled hence there’s stringent rules and consequences.
Transformational Leadership Style:
This type of leadership is mostly considered to be more personable. The leader instills values and motivation within the organisation. The downside of this type of leadership is that employees could feel the need to adjust their own personalities to suit that of the leader, just so they can gain advantage or approval.
