Newly Updated COVID Rules For Companies In SA

The South African government has announced the updated rules and regulations, that companies will require to comply with. These new rules clearly state how both the employee and employer should mitigate the spread of the corona virus in the workplace.

Here are the new major rules that have been set out by the department of Employment and Labour:

1.A submission of records, detailing the assessments and safety strategies from companies that employ more than 50 employees must be sent to the Department of Employment and Labour by 22 October 2020. This is a slight tweak, hence previously, this rule only applied to companies with more than 500 workers.

2. A weekly report detailing a myriad of issues, must be submitted by the employer, to the National Institute for Occupational Health. These issues might range from testing results, vulnerability status, high risk contacts, post infections and screening details.

3. Employees that are diagnosed with covid-19 will be allowed to return to the office, only after having complete

4. Once the workplace is declared a high risk exposure, the employer must place its workers on sick leave and the workers will be required to be quarantined for ten days.

5. If the workplace is a low risk exposure, the workers must wear a surgical mask, however there must a carefully monitored process by the employer for symptoms arising from the first contact.
