Greyhound Set To Close All Operations After 37 years of Service. Greyhound had solidified its place in the transport business as one of the leading, most luxurious and trustworthy bus coaches in South Africa. It has continuously built this reputation over the past 37 years with is top tier customers service and affordable prices. The Covid-19 Pandemic has negatively affected most businesses that are non essential, especially those in the hospitality industry as people are cancelling their trips and no new bookings are made as most international travel is prohibited. Greyhound also finds itself affected as it is also part of the hospitality industry and with the national lockdown still in effect its business has been put on hold. Greyhound took to Twitter on the 3rd of February to announce that it is closing all its operations effective from the 14th of February 2021.
The tweet read, “Announcement: Greyhound and Citiliner are closing operations. Services will run until 14 February 2021. Passengers with tickets booked for services after this date will be refunded. Thank you to all our passengers for our continued support.”
Greyhound was the first luxury coach operator to start an inner-city scheduled service as far back as 1984. The company carried more than 1.4 million passengers per year over 25 million km. It had comprehensive inner-city network that covered all the major cities in South Africa as well as Harare, Bulawayo in Zimbabwe and Maputo in Mozambique. The company emphasised on safety and comfort at affordable prices.
Its most luxurious coach the Dreamliner was recently introduced to the market which is the first of its type in Africa. The Dreamliner offered passengers a premium class section on the lower deck and Luxury class section on the upper deck. Greyhound is part of the “Unitrans Passenger” operating division of Unitrans Holdings, which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of KAP International Holdings.
