Young Farmer Receives Over R40 000 In Donations In 3 Days After Losing R50 000 Worth Of Broilers. Mpho Moteka, a young poultry farmer from Phuthaditjhaba, Free State, South Africa took to Twitter on the 7th of February to express the terrible news of losing his production of broilers worth R50 000 due to heavy rains. The young entrepreneur declared the will quit the business because he had no other means of funding his production to be fully operational again. “I let tears down in front of people who help me out at the chicken house. This was 6am and my day was sour already but God works in mysterious ways.” said Moteka in a tweet.

#SaveMphosBusiness was created on Twitter and the parody account ‘Jan Van Potgieter’ asked South Africans to help Moteka out. The account shared an image of Moteka’s banking details alongside the post about him giving up. South Africans were asked for donations of at least R10 to help save Moteka’s business.

South Africans were amazed at how ‘Black Twitter’ supported the young farmer as it is usually known for cancelling and trolling people. @Si6usiso tweeted, “Black Twitter stood up and donated R42K to Mpho Mateka who lost all his R50K chicken stock. Now that’s what I call black excellence and good usage of Twitter.”

@ttq_bells tweeted, “Its great to see the support @MphoMoteka is getting #savemphosbusiness special S/O to @sciTheComedist we see your work and influence more blessings to you for keeping another’s dream alive”

Record Label Ambitiouz Entertainment also contributed to the cause of saving Mateka’s business by donating R5000. The company tweeted, “We rise by uplifting others and we hope others will do the same. @MphoMoteka our brother never keep trying.”

“Exactly 4 days after the loss of my broiler production, South Africans and other Africans came together and bought the whole stock that died. All the money that was contributed is sitting on R41K. I wish I could thank you all personally.” Moteka tweeted.
