This Mazibuko Pick-Up Is Set To Be The First South African Electric Car
This Mazibuko Pick-Up Is Set To Be The First South African Electric Car. The South African electric vehicle industry isn’t existent as many companies are reluctant in investing in electric vehicles due to the high costs it involves to manufacture the cars. Nhlanhla Mazibuko seeks to change this as he has designed the first South African electric vehicle that is set to release its first prototype later this year.
Mazibuko out of frustration of waiting and seeing South Africa get left behind in the EV race decided to act and the M1B electric pick-up was born. “We are seeing the world shift into clean smart mobility, and internal combustion engines getting phased out by battery electric vehicles that are powerful, smart, and overall better than anything out there.” Mazibuko told Michael Robert Tech News Platform.
Mazibuko Motor Company was founded in 2020 and it has been working behind closed doors on the development of South Africa’s first electric vehicle. It is a battery electric and technology company based in South Africa. It develops its own electric vehicles including technologies used for autonomous driving, battery storage and power generation.
As a private company it often finds itself having to keep some of its work safely guarded but it understands that the journey it is taking involves others. So as a company it has chosen to be more open about its work and journey as it wants to be as transparent as possible and have everyone feel involved and as part of its family.
The company hopes to see Africa become a move away from internal combustion engine vehicles to clean battery-electric vehicles while creating a carbon zero energy system. It aims to build a fleet of locally manufactured smart, durable, and safe electric vehicles that helps us move away from use of fossil fuels and build a sustainable transport system.
The electric car will have power of 500kW, battery of 120kW/, range of 400km 0-100km/h and >5 seconds Torque 1300Nm. It has also developed a scalable fully integrated rolling chassis in-house that combines crash management, electrical and electronic architecture, thermal management solutions, scalable battery pack and flexi frame. The car is currently in production and people can sign-up to be on the waiting list and be one of the first people to have the M1B to delivered to them.
