Facebook Disables BrownSense Group
Facebook has just disabled popular Facebook group ‘BrownSense’ which cites itself as “ all about the promotion of Black business, creating an easily accessible database of Black owned businesses and professionals, and building and enhancing a community of like-minded people.”
In a detailed message to its members the group wrote “Good day fellow Brownies, Some of you may have noticed that you are not able to comment or post in the Facebook group. Facebook has disabled the group, stating that we have gone against their community standards. They have not provided sufficient details as to how we’ve done so. Having said that, this is something we have anticipated as the work BrownSense is doing is meant to challenge the status quo.
Fortunately we had embarked on a community based platform that will plug into our e-commerce platform, BrownSense.Africa.
To stay abreast of all these developments, please join a placeholder group we have created using the following link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/3925958414127100.
Please note that this won’t be business as usual as we clearly need to move more faster in making the dream of having our own platform/s a reality. If you had a running post for which you had paid, we will note this so that we can credit you.”
Update: BrownSense has been restored and it’s working again
