This New Toyota Hilux GR Sport Is Set To Be Launched In October 2021! Toyota is preparing a GR Sport Hilux that’s likely to be the most powerful high-performance diesel bakkie to come to market. Last year Toyota trademarked the “GR Hilux nameplate” in Australia and it was recently reported that Toyota will launch a stylised Hilux GR Sport later this year. While the 190 kW Volkswagen Amarok is currently the most powerful double-cab bakkie in South Africa, its throne is under threat and the incoming GR Hilux is likely to unseat the Amarok V6.

Power is rumoured to be unchanged, so expect to see the same 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel powertrain found in current variants, which will still produce 150kW and 500Nm. According to reports, the Hilux GR Sport is expected to be unveiled on Toyota’s home soil in October 2021. Changes are said to include a bespoke set of 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in knobbly 265/60 profile tyres, body-coloured flared wheel arches, revised suspension and a unique front grille design.

Inside, the GR Sport will score brushed metal sports pedals, powered front seats, a s360-degree reverse camera and GR-branded trim pieces such as a newly designed handbrake and gear-selector boot. Toyota South Africa confirmed to Cars.co.za that the new Hilux GR will retail for R707 400. The sporty Hilux is also expected to have a full suite of safety features that include adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, autonomous emergency braking, and driver attention and speed sign monitoring.

The Toyota Hilux is a series of pickup trucks produced and marketed by the Japanese automobile manufacturer Toyota. The majority of these vehicles are sold as pickup truck or cab chassis variants, although they could be configured in a variety of body styles. The Hilux range is designed and built with safety in mind, tapping into the decades of research and experience to help you stay safe on the road. Trailer Sway Control automatically detects excessive movement of a trailer and uses Hilux brakes and engine power to help reduce it.
