Transportation Start-Up LULA Seeks To Provide Access To Economic Opportunities Through Sustainable Transportation. LULA is on a mission to enable emerging market cities to thrive by empowering people to be more productive and sustainable whilst providing access to economic opportunities. Founded in 2016 on the principle that without access to transport, people can’t access economic opportunity – LULA sought to bridge the inequality gap in emerging market cities by providing access to convenient, sustainable, and affordable mobility in Africa.

With over 100 cities in Africa having over a million citizens by 2025, the need for cities to move more efficiently, sustainably, and productively is of paramount importance. Reliance on single-occupancy cars, inefficient public transit, and high infrastructure costs will not help Africa prosper in the long run. Thus, LULA is on a mission to harness the growth of Africa by providing a safe, sustainable, convenient, and affordable transport system to move around the continent. LULA’s vision is global and connected to the unique challenges of the final frontier market of Africa centered on a #ZeroCarbonFuture.

The company believes that by 2025 there will be 100 cities in Africa with more than 1 million inhabitants each. Without access to safe, reliable and affordable transport, there will be no equal access to opportunities. Through the culture of ridesharing, LULA aims to provide reliable transport options in emerging cities around the world. The company was named the winner of the 2019 Southern Africa Startup Awards — South Africa Chapter.

LULA is an app that connects corporate commuters who work for the same company and live in similar areas with a door to door shuttle service. LULA crowd sources information according to four key components: one’s residential address, their work address and their arrival and departure times. Once there is sufficient demand in an area and passengers have coordinating times, a route will be published. If there is insufficient demand in an area, people are advised to encourage their friends and colleagues to sign up to the platform to expedite their loop request.
