Founder Of MaXhosa Africa Laduma Ngxokolo Shares The Meaning Behind The Name Of His Brand’s Store. In an interview with The Insider SA, fashion designer and Founder of Maxhosa Africa Laduma Ngxokolo shared the meaning behind the name of his brand’s store. Ngxokolo expressed the importance of preserving the belief of anything being possible through hard work.
He said, “The official name behind 5he store is ‘Black child, it is possible’, basically the statement we wanted to make was we want to reach to the lowest parts of our population and be a voice of validation that it is possible. We often have to remind our people that dreaming the impossible is often the best reality to live but once they get there they have to extend the ladder down and remind others that where we are is not beyond reach, it is reachable.”
Ngxokolo Shares Why it is important for Africans to believe in their dreams and visions. This is important because they get to live out their passions. He shared that the official name behind the brand’s store was done in order to motivate black people as they have been previously disadvantaged in terms of opportunities.
Maxhosa also want to export the African influence on fashion, he seeks to show the world what Africans have to offer to the fashion industry at a global scale. Through doing this the brand is highlighting the diverse fashion industry in Africa. This makes people more interested in what he has to offer as he is offering unique designs that are influenced by his cultural background.
The company was founded with the desire to explore knitwear design solutions that would be suitable for amakrwala (Xhosa initiates). Ngxokolo’s initial vision was to create a modern Xhosa-inspired knitwear collection that would be suitable for this market. As a person who has undergone the process, Laduma felt that he had to develop premium knitwear that celebrates traditional Xhosa aesthetics. This shows that Ngxokolo has a vision a and a goal that he wants to reach with his brand that is influenced by dreaming big as a black child.
