Pretoria’s The Saint George Hotel Shuts Down After 30 Years In Business
Pretoria’s The Saint George Hotel Shuts Down After 30 Years In Business. The Saint George Hotel has announced that it is closing down its operations after three decades of doing business. The hotel explained that due to Covid 19, load shedding and general lack of service delivery ultimately led to the closure.
“We have been trading for over 30 years and during this time we have built incredible relationships with customers and service providers. Recent challenges including the Covid-19 pandemic, load shedding and general service delivery failures have put our business under severe pressure, so much so that we have had to consider all alternatives to remain viable.” The hotel said in a statement.
The hotel is situated 20 minutes from OR Tambo International Airport, 15 minutes from Pretoria, and 30 minutes from Johannesburg. The hotel could accommodate a lot people whether they are attending a conference or banquet. The Saint George Hotel had 35 multi-functional conference venues, which could accommodate small group delegates through to venues that comfortably seat 1500 delegates. It also had conference packages that included three tea and coffee breaks and a buffet lunch and all the conference venues were equipped with WiFi.
This is truly a loss that will be significant to not only the people working at the hotel but it might also affect the tourism sector as this shows that the hotel industry is suffering due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The Saint George Hotel is not the only hotel that has had to close its doors due to the pandemic, the Protea Hotel Victoria Junction also had to close down in 2021 as the Covid 19 regulations and restrictions did not allow the hotel to function normally.
The Covid-19 pandemic has put a lot of businesses in different industries under pressure and some businesses are not surviving. This shows that entrepreneurs should consider researching which industries they can invest into during the pandemic in order to avoid losing their investments when their company closes down.
