Virginia Gas Project In South Africa Produces Its First Liquid Helium

Virginia Gas Project In South Africa Produces Its First Liquid Helium. Renegern has announced that the Virginia Gas Project in South Africa has managed to produce its first Liquid Helium.

The company said in a statement, “Renergen, a natural gas and helium producer, is proud to announce that with the production of firstliquid helium at its Virginia Gas Project, it has now become the world’s newest producer of liquid helium. The helium module is now operational and being optimised.”

“Having the helium plant in operation and producing liquid helium is a truly spectacular achievement bythe team who went above and beyond to achieve the major and critical milestone. All components ofthe Phase 1 plant are now in operation, and South Africa joins the ranks of only 8 countries in the worldto produce this rare and valuable liquid,” said Stefano Marani, CEO of Renergen.

The first two wells in the campaign have flowed initial gas, though gas composition is yet to be determined. In addition, the previously reported R2D2 well has seen following clean-up operations increase its flow rate by 15 per cent since the well was completed. Frodo is the first well drilled since R2D2 and C3PO. The well was drilled to target depth within 10 days and struck gas early with a flow rate of 23,000 standard cubic feet per day.

Renergen CEO Stefano Marani said: “Whilst a sample of two is hardly conclusive, since deploying the conviction tool we developed, the drilling success rate is significantly improved.”
