How GirlHype Aims To Address The Unequal Access To Opportunities, Experiences And Skills In The ICT Sector. GirlHYPE is the leading coding school for women with a mission to increase female representation in tech through education, mentorship and community. Over the last 25 years, women have gone missing from the computer science workforce in significant numbers.

The company accelerates the pipeline of women in computer science through Girlhype Women Coding Clubs. It is a community of women and girls that are passionate about learning and teaching others how to code. Through its classes, workshops, courses, hackathons, techtalks and outreach programs the company aims to make computer science education fun. GirlHype partners with tech companies across South Africa to deliver fundamental programming skills to underrepresented women and youth through its Girlhype Innovation KickBox program. Partner companies receive the tools, training, and resources they need to implement impactful programming workshops for community youth.

The company was founded by Baratang Miya, she is passionate about Workforce Diversity and workplace Inclusion of Women and Youth in the Technology and Entrepreneurship space, as a result she started, Women In Tech Academy and Girlhype with focus to attract, promote and develop women and girls from underrepresented groups in the field of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Miya has partnered with organisations like UN Women, Mozilla, TechWomen, SiliconCape and Technovation to develop women’s digital literacy and participating on the web.

GirlHype’s goal is to address unequal access to the opportunities, experiences, skills, and knowledge that will prepare youth for full participation in the world of the 21st century. Many of its students will be entering the workforce upon completing high school. Girlhype feels that the gap between schoolwork and the world of work must be bridged more effectively than it has been in the past. The company believes the youth must be better prepared for employment.
