Lady Du Opens Up About Why She Opened A High End Saloon In The Township. The township economy in South Africa has been on the rise of throughout the years due to the small businesses that have been established and operating. This has allowed other entrepreneurs to find problems that they can solve in order to make life better and much convenient for people living in the township. South African singer Lady Du is one such entrepreneur, in an interview with NINE80 MEDIA she opened up about why she opened a high end saloon in KwaThema.

She said, “The reason why I started the saloon was because I was seeing so many people from the hood catch a taxi to come to Sandton to just to take a picture of the weave and I thought I don’t want that, what if I bring it to them? What would happen?” Lady Du explains that she saw an opportunity as an entrepreneur to make it easier for people from the township to reach high end weaves s they have to travel really far to places that don’t see them as the target market therefore they will not consider catering for them.

Lady Du seeks to capture the market in the township as much of it is untapped and there is potential for small businesses to thrive. She also wants people in the township to see an example of hard work, determination and resilience paying off. This will inspire other young people to also identify problems that they can solve in their own townships and therefore create businesses that will solve these problems. By doing so they would be helping themselves and their community.

This salon will also show that if people in the township are willing to go to the city in order to purchase high end products or services, they would also support a business that it nearer to them that provides the same high end products or services as this will provide convenience, plus they would be supporting a small business.
