Government Remains In Business With Security Company, G4S. Justice Minister Ronald Lamola has announced that the contract they have in place with G4S to run the Mangaung correctional facility where convicted rapist and murderer Thabo Bester escaped last year will remain in place until it expires in 2026.
The government is paying the company R45 million per month for the company’s services at the Mangaung correctional facility. Speaking at the portfolio committee inquiry looking into the Bester escape saga, the Minister said, “The expenditure payment made to date since 2001 is R7.7-billion. The projection until the end of the contract is over R2-billion. We are paying an amount of R45-million a month for this facility.”
