Standard Bank Partners With AI Capital To Launch AI Capital Fund III. Standard Bank is the investment banking partner to AI Capital. Standard Bank, in its capacity as sole investment bank and advisor to AI Capital, has been instrumental in structuring, advising and fundraising for AI Capital. Standard Bank has also served as AI Capital’s investment banking partner since they established Fund I, which closed in October 2020.
AI Capital is a flagship investment fund, leveraging its unique capabilities, strategic insights and global connectivity to generate long-term sustainable value by investing in businesses where AI capability can enhance investment returns. AI Capital is targeting early growth stage private equity investments in South and South East Asia and Africa. It is the largest fund launched to date, in partnership with New York–based Rohatyn Group, a specialised global emerging markets asset management firm which owns Ethos Private Equity, the largest private equity business in sub-Saharan Africa.
AI Capital has 550-million active users, operates in 32 emerging markets and is managed by Outsurance and Rain co-founder Willem Roos, former FNB CEO and Rain co-founder Michael Jordaan, Rain co-founder Roger Grobler and former Hollard CEO Nic Kohler. The group aims to build a portfolio of around 20 assets in Fund III and is seeking companies that are robust and seek to make a significant positive impact. They primarily follow a co-investment model and have partnered with Standard Bank, African Rainbow Capital, Ethos and Apis in past investments.
