Even though the company’s primary focus is on the maintenance of major national routes, provincial routes and municipal roads, its expertise extends to incorporate construction projects throughout the Western Cape. When the company won the Tholoana Award, Mampho Sotshongaye said, “Growing up in the rural areas of Port St. John’s presented me with numerous challenges that left internal scars and shaped my perspective on life. Despite the limitations imposed upon me, particularly as a woman, I refused to accept them. Fuelled by anger and a desire to defy expectations, I made a decision that would alter the course of my life. Entrepreneurship proved to be a solitary journey, fraught with anxiety, fear, and occasional breakdowns. However, the support and guidance I received from the SAB Foundation Tholoana programme, along with the unwavering assistance of Fetola over the past 18 months, have been invaluable. I’m immensely grateful to my mentor, Mohamed Majapa, whose presence and guidance steadied me through the toughest of times. Despite the inevitable mistakes and challenges, I’m confident that our journey is guided by the wisdom of those who have walked this path before us.”
