Gauteng Joins Forces With Takealot To Launch The Takealot Township Economy Initiative
Gauteng Joins Forces With Takealot To Launch The Takealot Township Economy Initiative. The Gauteng provincial government has announced its partnership with Takealot in order to launch the Takealot Township Economy Initiative. This partnership seeks to allow entrepreneurs in the township to have a national reach online and create job opportunities for young people as re-sellers on the Takealot platform.
Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi said, “Cheers to @TAKEALOT for sharing our vision to embrace our township businesses on their platform thus creating 20 000 new jobs within three years. Today, we opened township businesses to the world! Less talk, more work! Ending an era where township businesses only sell to township residents. Today, together with TakeAlot, we signed an agreement that will, for the very first time, expose our business owners to the global market. This investment of R150m will lay a foundation for 20 000 new jobs.”
This initiative seeks to support township-based entrepreneurs so that they can expand and grow their businesses, through increased market access. A lot of businesses in the townships struggle with reaching customers that are not near them, this can make the business miss a lot of opportunities that would have resulted in the expansion and growth of the business. This initiative will bring a much needed solution to this problem as it will not only be empowering small businesses but it will also be empowering young people through job opportunities as it also aims to provide training and licensing for young people to do deliveries.
“The fuure gold lies in the townships, it is in the townships that new gold will emerge, it is in the townships that new businesses will emerge, it is in the townships that new infrastructure will emerge, it is in the townships that new development will emerge and today a new e-commerce initiative is rising purely because of the vision of Takealot and for that we are grateful. We appreciate that you share our vision, we were the first province to pass a bill or an act of parliament called Township Economic Development bill.” Lesufi said at the launch of the initiative in Pretoria.
