How Mpumelelo Dhlamini Founded Clothing Brand, Ezokhetho. Ezokhetho is a term derived from the isiZulu language by the founder Mpumelelo Dhlamini and his mom. After graduating with a BA Degree in Fashion at The Villioti Fashion Institute, Mpumelelo sort out to create a clothing brand that would be a form of storytelling.
Having graduated receiving the Dean’s Merit Award. He went on to complete the EDCON Design Innovation Challenge, a developmental initiative, which included the SA Fashion Week – 21 Steps Retail Programme, and an EDCON internship. In 2019, being selected to sell the first capsule collection in Milan during Milan Fashion Week. The brand Ezokhetho was born. A clothing brand that is created to reflect the African person as well as celebrate the lineage that is behind the now. The brand continues to take on a DNA of its own each season as it grows.
The company seeks to provide contemporary African luxury clothing that aims to tell African stories using fabric as a medium. It continuously aspires to find new ways of giving women clothing that makes a statement without compromising on comfort and quality. It aims to make pieces that cater to and enhance every day, be it business or pleasure.
The company aims to be a socially responsible brand that is environmentally conscious and strives to contribute towards establishing an industry that is empowered and fair. It believes in producing high quality garments that are true to what the company is as a brand, produced responsibly at every level from concept all the way to production.
Some of the materials Ezokhetho uses are produced locally and with some of the fabrics that it uses being surplus fabrics sourced from local suppliers. The company works with a number of small local suppliers and CMT production factories that are committed to fair working conditions and transparency in their operations.
