SA StartUp BurnStar Technologies Partners With NOVO Energy. NOVO Energy, a prominent supplier of natural gas with substantial agreements in Southern Africa and South Africa, and BurnStar Technologies, a pioneering South African startup (that specialises in the decarbonization of natural gas by conversion to hydrogen), are delighted to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). By signing this MOU, NOVO Energy becomes BurnStar’s preferred supplier for comprehensive natural gas supply solutions, guaranteeing a decade long cost-effective and dependable supply of natural gas for BurnStar’s innovative Guilt-Free Hydrogen™ production projects.
BurnStar Technologies and NOVO Energy have formed a strategic partnership that is a significant stride towards building a carbon neutral hydrogen production technology. BurnStar’s innovative Zero-CO2 technology and NOVO’s robust supply chain capabilities are about to be combined to improve the energy security and efficacy of their clients. The anticipated outcomes of this collaboration include a positive influence on the broader green energy landscape in the region by assisting South African companies to lower their carbon footprint, reduce Carbon Tax, and sidestep CBAM through the production of pure hydrogen.
NOVO Energy has executed extensive supply agreements for multiple gas sources in the SADC region. These include agreements with Sasol and projects which encompass onshore gas fields. These agreements enable NOVO to efficiently procure, distribute, and export natural gas to its consumers. In anticipation of Sasol’s expected cessation of petrol sales to commercial offtakers in South Africa by 2027, NOVO endeavours to meet the needs of its South African clients. This strategic action ensures that BurnStar’s customers receive an uninterrupted supply of natural gas, thereby addressing potential shortages and providing energy to a diverse range of industries.
The purpose of this MOU is to guarantee a cost-effective natural gas supply from NOVO for a minimum of ten years. BurnStar’s objective is to ensure our clientèle has economically viable access to natural gas for conversion into Guilt-Free Hydrogen™ even if their regular gas supply is cut off in 2027. The agreement emphasises the dedication of both organisations to an enduring partnership that will ensure the Deep-Decarbonisation of NOVO’s consistent and dependable energy feedstock for BurnStar’s clients, thereby promoting innovation and expansion in the clean hydrogen and energy sector.
