Corporate Halls to Cultivated Fields: The Resilient Rise of Neno Farming and Processing

Corporate Halls to Cultivated Fields: The Resilient Rise of Neno Farming and Processing. When Nomalanga Pride Nkabinde reflects on her journey from corporate employee to successful agripreneur, it is one marked by faith, courage, and relentless reinvention. Her story is not a straight path of success but a journey shaped by risk, resilience, and a clear vision of legacy building. Today, as the founder of Neno Farming and Processing in Gauteng, Nomalanga is proof that life’s detours often lead to the most fruitful destinations.
The Early Seeds of Entrepreneurship
Growing up in Katlehong, Nomalanga’s early years were rooted in determination and self-discovery. After matriculating from Inanda Seminary in Durban in 1995, she began a long career in the corporate world, working for well-known companies such as Murray & Roberts and NCP Chlorchem. Though her career provided stability, it didn’t ignite her passion. “I knew there was more I could give myself. I had to develop so I could build my own legacy,” she once reflected.
That desire to create something of her own led her to study Events Styling and Flower Arrangements at the SA School of Weddings. As part of the course, students had to register a business, and this requirement sparked her first entrepreneurial step. In 2016, while still employed full-time, Nomalanga began running a part-time events business. It was a small beginning, but it gave her the first glimpse of independence and creativity that entrepreneurship could offer.
Taking the Leap of Faith
In 2018, Nomalanga made the bold decision to resign and pursue her business full-time. It was a leap many dream of but few dare to take. However, entrepreneurship rarely moves in a straight line. While she was finding her rhythm in events management, her curiosity about agriculture began to grow.
She took another bold step and enrolled at Buhle Farmers Academy in 2019 to study crop production. There, she spent three months immersed in farm management and vegetable cultivation. It was a turning point that would later define her future. “I wanted to do something that contributes to the bigger picture, something that ensures communities have access to food,” she explained.
Weathering the Storm
The year 2020 brought challenges that tested entrepreneurs around the world. When the COVID-19 pandemic struck, Nomalanga’s events company suffered major financial losses as gatherings and functions came to a halt. Forced to return home, she faced one of the hardest decisions of her life, whether to give up or start again.
It was during this time of reflection that Neno Farming and Processing was born. In 2021, together with a business partner, she launched the farming business with a focus on addressing food security challenges and creating sustainable livelihoods.
But life had one more test in store. While trying to revive her catering business, a devastating house fire destroyed all her equipment. “I was absolutely devastated. I felt there was no other option but to give up,” she recalls. Yet, instead of allowing the loss to define her, she chose to rebuild.

Building Neno Farming and Processing
Neno Farming and Processing began operations on a leased nine-hectare farm. The company focuses on crop production and supplies private clients, local vegetable markets, and the nearby Mini Pick n Pay. Through strategic partnerships and a strong understanding of market demand, Nomalanga grew her client base and built a brand associated with consistency and community impact.
Her approach to growth has been grounded in adaptability and learning. By combining her experience from corporate structures with her newfound agricultural expertise, she implemented efficient systems for production, marketing, and distribution. Her understanding of branding and client relations from her events background became an unexpected advantage in running an agricultural enterprise.
Diversification and Expansion
Beyond farming, Nomalanga also continues to run Amalanga Creations and Events Planning, serving both corporate and private clients. Managing two businesses requires discipline, but it also reflects her ability to adapt and diversify, a key survival skill for any entrepreneur.
Her journey demonstrates that success often comes from embracing multiple opportunities and balancing them strategically. For her, farming and event planning are not separate worlds but extensions of her creativity and purpose.

Lessons for Aspiring Entrepreneurs
Nomalanga’s path offers valuable lessons for anyone looking to build or rebuild their dream:
- Start where you are: Even if you don’t have all the resources, take the first step with what you have.
- Be open to learning: Every career experience can serve your future venture in ways you may not expect.
- Adapt and diversify: When circumstances change, evolve with them instead of resisting.
- Turn challenges into fuel: Setbacks are not the end, they are redirections toward greater purpose.
- Lead with purpose: Building a business is not only about profit but also about impact.
