Tintswalo Unveils Restored Glencairn Landmark as Luxury Seaside Escape. The Tintswalo Collection has expanded its presence in Cape Town with the opening of Tintswalo Summer House in Glencairn, introducing a restored heritage property to its portfolio of boutique coastal hotels.

The new addition joins sister properties Tintswalo Atlantic and Tintswalo Boulders, reflecting the group’s continued focus on high-end hospitality along the Cape Peninsula.

Originally established in 1904 as the Glencairn Southern Right Hotel, the property has undergone extensive renovation to transform it into a contemporary seaside retreat. Once known as a prominent coastal landmark and social hub, the building later fell into disrepair before being acquired by Tintswalo in 2014. It initially operated as a restaurant while plans for a full restoration were developed.

Overlooking False Bay, the reimagined hotel now features 12 individually styled guest suites. The interiors were designed by Camlyn Johnston, working alongside chief executive officer Lisa Goosen and founder Gaye Corbett as part of the family-run business. The property has already received recognition, earning a Scape Gold Key Award for design excellence in hospitality.

Tintswalo Summer House is positioned as a design-led boutique destination, with each suite named and styled according to its own colour palette and character. Accommodation is divided into four room categories, with options offering either sea views or outlooks onto the pool deck.

Shared spaces blend contemporary finishes with antique elements, including a swimming pool, sundeck, lounge areas, and the Tini Martini Bar. A breakfast room centred around a water feature adds to the overall guest experience.

The on-site Summer House Eatery serves lunch and dinner, combining French bistro influences with South African elements. Led by head chef Thando Jaxa, the menu focuses on open-fire cooking and locally sourced ingredients, offering a range of seafood, meats, salads, and shared dishes. A curated wine and cocktail selection includes regional offerings.

Located along the Southern Peninsula, the property provides access to nearby beaches and coastal routes, positioning it as both a leisure destination and a base for exploring the surrounding area.
