Bontebok National Park to Welcome Visitors Back with Phased Reopening from August. Bontebok National Park will begin welcoming visitors again from 1 August 2026 as South African National Parks (SanParks) starts a phased reopening following flood damage sustained in May.
The initial reopening will provide visitors with access to selected accommodation and outdoor activities while restoration work continues across other parts of the park.
During the first phase, six self-catering chalets and the campsite will reopen for bookings. Visitors will also be able to enjoy the Aloe Hill, Acacia and Termite hiking trails, offering access to some of the park’s popular outdoor experiences.
However, several facilities remain unavailable as rehabilitation work continues.
The eight riverside chalets that were damaged during the floods are still undergoing refurbishment and cannot yet be reserved. Die Stroom Picnic Site and the Bushbuck Trail will also remain closed until restoration work has been completed.
SanParks said the reopening forms part of a phased recovery plan designed to restore visitor facilities while ensuring the park is safe and ready to receive guests.
As rehabilitation progresses, additional accommodation, visitor amenities and recreational experiences will gradually reopen. SanParks said updates on future reopening phases will be communicated as more facilities become operational.
The organisation expressed its enthusiasm about welcoming visitors back to the national park after the disruption caused by the flood damage earlier this year.
Bontebok National Park is known for its natural beauty, wildlife and hiking opportunities, making it a popular destination for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. The phased reopening is expected to allow visitors to return while ongoing repairs continue in affected areas.
Travellers planning a visit from August will have access to the facilities included in the first reopening phase, while those hoping to stay in the riverside chalets or visit the remaining closed attractions will need to wait until refurbishment work has been completed.
