FNB, WesBank and RMB Launch Platform to Simplify Renewable Energy Access

FNB, WesBank and RMB Launch Platform to Simplify Renewable Energy Access. FNB, WesBank and RMB have launched Nav.energy, an integrated renewable energy platform designed to help South African businesses access, finance and implement renewable energy solutions.
The platform brings together funding, technical expertise, delivery partners and flexible ownership models to simplify the process of adopting renewable energy.
Muneer Ismail, CEO of commercial and corporate banking, said the initiative builds on capabilities developed to serve the banks’ existing clients, making them accessible to more businesses and consumers.
“We are focusing on energy because it is one of the most pressing issues facing South African businesses, and it is an area where we have deep experience,” said Ismail.
Businesses pursuing greater energy resilience, cost certainty and sustainability often face technical, financial and operational challenges when evaluating renewable energy options. Nav.energy aims to address these complexities by providing access to relevant expertise and solutions through a single platform.
Ismail said the initiative reflects the banks’ commitment to climate resilience and sustainable economic growth, while helping businesses make informed energy decisions and access solutions that support long-term investment.
The platform draws on experience from across the group’s energy-related businesses. RMB has supported renewable energy projects in South Africa for 14 years and has lent more than R46 billion to government-led programmes and private-sector initiatives.
As of 30 June 2025, renewable energy accounted for 76% of RMB’s R53.5 billion in infrastructure lending and investment in South Africa.
WesBank, FNB Energy Solutions and Acacia, which supports renewable energy providers across the sector, contribute funding and expertise to the platform.
Customers can use Nav.energy to learn about the service, submit enquiries and speak to specialists who can help identify suitable renewable energy solutions for their businesses.
Further enhancements are planned for the platform, including energy calculators, system-sizing tools and a supplier directory.
Ismail said the ambition is to help South African businesses strengthen resilience, manage energy costs and pursue sustainability goals with greater confidence.
