Yardrun is a mid-high end footwear and apparel start-up that was founded in South Africa, on the 14th December 2018 by Themba Enock Mpehle with a vision of building a world class sneaker and apparel brand. He was driven by the vision of serving innovative design and high-end premium quality activewear /sportswear /athleisure /performance-wear products to the world. Yardrun is also a streetwear /fashion footwear and apparel brand. The company is focused on developing its own designs as they prioritise quality over everything. Its initial market release is the Yardrun “R” black edition. Its products are exclusive to the Yardrun brand.
South African DJ and Entrepreneur, DJ Shimza took to Twitter to give the sneakers his seal of approval, he saw the sneakers online and decided to purchase a pair. The tweet read, “I saw these sneakers here on Twitter, loved the fact that they are local and so dope! I went to their website to order and they delivered, I dig them so much! Shout out to dope blacks doing dope things!!! @Yardrun_SA you have a new client and I’m hoping you get more.”
The South African sneaker industry has been making moves these past couple of years. There are several South African shoe brands that have been created that received commercial success such the Bathu sneaker brand. Mpehle seeks to do the same as Yardrun is a South African sneaker start-up that develops and produces its own original designs.
This sneaker brand seeks to inspire people to run towards their dreams. “Run through pain, through a pandemic, through exams and interviews, through dreams and goals, through late nights and early mornings” the company posted on Twitter. This message aligns to its brand as it offers sportswear sneakers that have an athletic edge.
