How Bonang Matheba’s House Of BNG Found Success Amid The Corona Virus Pandemic

How Bonang Matheba’s House Of BNG Found Success Amid The Corona Virus Pandemic. Bonang Matheba’s House of BNG Nectar range – the country’s first true sparkling wine in a can – has been a massive success with over 500,000 cans sold within four months, excluding the alcohol ban period during lockdown.

“I’m extremely grateful for the response shown to The House of BNG and its month-to-month growth and so proud of all the innovations the brand has made over the last two years. I’m also very excited that The House of BNG is now represented in Checkers LiquorShop nationally,” Bonang Matheba told Trans Africa Radio.

The House of BNG is South Africa’s top selling MCC and has become the celebration of choice at important events such as the Presidential Inauguration, Miss SA and SA Sports Awards and is also now available in other African countries including Botswana and Namibia. The House of BNG continues to innovate the category and its unstoppable ascent in the South African luxury beverage market following the release of the Nectar range, one of the first African brands to produce a true sparkling wine in a can.

In 2019, Bonang Matheba launched her very own luxury beverage brand with the introduction of the House of BNG and its Brut and Brut Rosé Méthode Cap Classiques (MCCs). Known as the “Champagne Queen”, Bonang made a specific decision to originally make MCCs with Cape grapes rather than a champagne (made from region-specific French grapes) and involved the careful crafting of a unique blend by acclaimed Cape Wine Master Jeff Grier, selecting the finest grapes from across the world-renowned Stellenbosch wine-producing region. To suit her taste preferences, Bonang collaborates in the creative process, from advising on the balance between bitter and sweet to the size of the bubbles.

“The House of BNG was a passion project of mine for a long time. It’s no secret that champagne is my favourite drink, so having the opportunity to make my own MCC was an opportunity I couldn’t miss out on! I’m so excited about the brand’s growth and in its innovation of new products,” said Bonang on the brand’s website.
