The AWIEF Growth Accelerator Calls For Female Entrepreneurs To Apply For Its Programme. The Africa Women Innovation and Entrepreneurship Forum (Awief) is hosting the fourth cohort of its growth accelerator, sponsored by Nedbank, and is open to applications. AWIEF Growth Accelerator is a three/four-month business skills development programme, including pitch training and mentorship, designed to support participants with business modelling and growth strategy required to scale their enterprises, become investment ready and develop entrepreneurial leadership.
“For the 2021 cohort, 20 female entrepreneurs would be selected from sectors including technology, agribusiness, financial services, manufacturing, health, education, tourism and hospitality, creative industries, and renewable energy,” Awief said in a statement.
Access to finance is the most cited challenge to the growth of women-owned businesses in Africa. Bankability and investment readiness are major impediments to attracting business finance. The accelerator provides capital-raising support for growth, scale and sustainability. It builds women’s entrepreneurial leadership capacity, connects them with appropriate sources of capital, and helps them scale. It said applications would close on June 14.
Accelerators are organisations that offer a range of support services and funding opportunities for start-ups. They tend to work by enrolling start-ups in months-long programs that offer mentorship, office space and supply chain resources. AWIEF’s mission is to foster the economic inclusion, advancement and empowerment of women in Africa through entrepreneurship support and development. AWIEF 2019 was a stellar lineup of experts, thought leaders, policymakers, researchers, investors and women entrepreneurs from across Africa and beyond.
The AWIEF Growth Accelerator is designed to support the unique needs of early-stage and high growth-oriented women-led ventures with business modelling, growth strategy training, corporate advisory, mentorship, networks, and access to strategic partnerships. The accelerator provides capital-raising support for growth, scale and sustainability. According to Afrikan Heroes, since 2017, more than 100 early-growth-stage women founders have gone through the accelerator programme.
