“…Before you can even adopt the language of the prospective funder, or their metrics, it’s imperative that you orgainse and articulate your impact. DFIs and other grant funders have been stricter on impact measures, while others go far as to provide prescriptive indicators for you. M&E Plan = Monitoring and Evaluation Plan, a high-level framework detailing how the proposed program and impact vehicle will work. Here are 5 items to be in your plan: 1. Introduction 2. Logical Framework 3. Roles and Responsibilities 4. Data Flow 5. Data Management
1. Introduction: Provide a brief summary of the program and the impact vehicle that you’re using, including the traction and what you’ll be putting the proposed budget asked for (and their locations). Under the subject line, include: 1. Purpose of this Plan 2. Project Summary. With these two sub topics, be as specific as you can, here’s an example of how your Project Summary can look like, and the items it should include in your table:
2. Logical Framework: This section is pretty self-explanatory, it details the specifics of your theory of change, meaning the process and systems in place to validate and execute your: 1. Input 2. Activities 3. Outputs 4. Outcomes 5. Impact E.g:
3. Roles and Responsibilities: Who forms part of your team, and what responsibilities have you assigned to them to this project? Itemise 2-4 responsibilities or one brief paragraph. NB: DO NOT include qualifications of your team here, this will be in the main application.
4. Data Flow: This is another self-explanatory one, and has more to do with your team, than the explicitness of the data flow. An organisation structure is more than enough to envelope this segment of your M&E Plan. However, if you feel compelled, you can provide a brief outline.
5. Data Management: How will you manage your data, and your stakeholders and their privacy? This segment is an opportunity for you to outline how your tools and technologies will be managed by your team with these 3 sub-headings: 1. Storage 2. Analysis 3. Privacy”
