Local Fashion brand Urban Zulu has announced that it has partnered with Washington DC based boutique, Nubian Hueman in order for its products to be available at the boutique. The Afrocentric fashion brand has partnered with Nubian Hueman in order to unite Africa and the Diaspora through clothing.

Urban Zulu is a fashion brand that was founded by Papy Kaluw. He got into fashion by selling clothes and altering them for people and soon taught himself how to design and make clothes from scratch. That is when Urban Zulu was born. Today, his brand is worn by some of the most prominent figures in Africa. Urban Zulu is considered to be an Afrocentric fashion brand that specializes in ready-to-wear clothing that has a slight taste of Pan-Africanism.

Nubian Hueman is a catalyst for culture, community, and the development of the creative economy by connecting the consumer to independent artists from across the world. The company brings popular culture, and fair-trade to a modern brand experience by serving as a means to promote collective interaction, community development, and global responsibility through a fresh and artistic platform. The company is a social enterprise that specialises in sourcing and curating unique goods, fashion, and art by designers representing the global Diaspora. It breaks the myth that artists cannot live through their creative abilities which drives the company to change the narrative of design around the world. It’s success has been in partnering with close to 500 artists and designers, from 6 different continents, and over 25 countries.

With this partnership Urban Zulu aims to take the brand to the international market. This is an opportunity for the brand to build its name within the international fashion market. A lot of the global market is interested in African fashion and Urban Zulu seeks to take advantage of this and build its brand.
