Biosciences Company Khepri Biosciences Seeks To Address The Environmental Effects Of Eutrophication In River Systems. Established in 2012, Khepri is an award-winning bioconversion company based in South Africa. Khepri Biosciences was born out of the need to address the environmental effects of eutrophication of river systems caused by agricultural runoff. This pollution threatens the purity of the water systems in South Africa – a country with limited water resources.
The company aims to be the number one bioconversion research and sustainable animal feed producers in the world. It has developed a unique technology for on-site processing of organic waste. The company is committed to reducing the reliance on fish meal as a food source in farming as this is an unsustainable resource and has resulted in the decline of fish stock. The rising cost of fishmeal has also made access to high-quality feed for emerging monogastric animal farmers difficult. By turning food waste into high-quality animal feed, the company provides a sustainable solution that is both environmentally friendly and cost-effective – while protecting marine life at the same time.
Khepri Biosciences provides sustainable solutions using entomology, engineering and biotechnology for sectors in agriculture, health and research. Its offerings include: animal feed products; soil amendments; waste management services and waste reduction technology. Khepri Biosciences has developed a unique technology for on-site processing of organic waste produced by food manufacturers, abattoirs and the hospitality sector. The waste is recycled to breed insects that are converted into low-cost, premium animal feed and high-quality organic fertilizer. This technology reduces waste volumes by up to 65% while decreasing waste management costs.
Khepri Biosciences was founded by Bandile Dlabantu, who is an energetic and ambitious self starter, coach and entrepreneur in the bio-economy with experience in Waste Management, the Bio-economy and Waste to Energy sector. He is also an internationally published poet and writer, his work is published in international poetry anthology “For Rhino In A Shrinking World”.
