SA EdTech StartUp FoodaMate Announces Its Expansion To Nigeria. South African EdTech StartUp FoondaMate took to Twitter to announce that it has expanded its reach to Nigeria. The company seeks to use technology in order to assist disadvantaged students achieve their best with their studies.

FoondaMate enables students with poor internet access and low quality phones to use the internet to study. The company is building chatbots that bring the internet to messaging applications that students already use like WhatsApp and Facebook messenger, for the 300M+ students currently unable to use the internet to study. 800k+ students currently use FoondaMate as a WhatsApp/Messenger contact that helps them with homework and helps them prepare for tests.

The company believes that high data costs and and language constraints exclude 315M+ students from the internet and most students in emerging markets such as Nigeria have entry level mobile phones and no wifi, leaving them unable to study online. Therefore, FoondaMate aims to enable access to online learning for such students who were previously unable to study online — through low data and chat first applications that are available in multiple languages.
