How Med-Tech Start Up EMGuidance Is Saving Lives

How Med-Tech Start Up EMGuidance Is Saving Lives. Medical professionals need information about certain medicines on a daily basis in order for them to provide a correct prescription to a patient or make informed decision about a patient’s health status. Accessing this information was not a simple task as it was scattered in different sources or platforms some of which are unreliable. This start up provides an innovative solution to this problem.

EmGuidance (EMG) is a trusted information driven mobile and web based medicines and treatment platform which supports healthcare professionals at the point of care in an unbiased manner, whilst creating insights and digital solutions for the healthcare ecosystem. It is committed to upholding transparency, innovation, excellence and providing up to date information. It was founded in 2016 by Mohammed Dalwai and Yaseen Khan and it is based in Sandton, Johannesburg, South Africa.

The problem that EMGuidance is solving is that of information access. “Medical professionals, to date, have had no single digital point through which to access point of care clinical and medicines information. Traditionally they have had to trawl websites, run Google searches and rely on medicines information sources which are either incomplete, or are non-digital and only updated every two or three years, or are of an international nature and not accurate for the South African region.” said Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), Howard Moodycliffe in an interview with Disrupt Africa.

Its team is deeply passionate about adding value and creating efficiencies for the medical professionals, patients and the pharmaceutical and healthcare organisations they provide solutions for.

This is a must have digital aid for South African Healthcare professionals because it provides comprehensive access to local, up to date and evidence based medicines and guidelines information from a range of local authors and institutions. The company has partnerships with more than 20 medical institutions as well as the South African Department of Health which publish their clinical guidelines through it. Since its launch the company has seen over 5 000 medical professionals register and use its platform.
