Dis-Chem To Provide Covid-19 Testing At OR Tambo And Cape Town International Airport. Dis-Chem has announced that it will be providing rapid Covid-19 testing at OR Tambo and Cape Town International airport. It has been providing antigen testing at its store for some time but has now also moved to these two airports in light of the new travel regulations that have been announced by the government.
Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma announced that all international travellers arriving at the airports listed must provide a valid certificate of a negative Covid-19 test, recognised by the World Health Organisation. In the event of the traveller’s failure to submit a certificate as proof of a negative Covid-19 test, the traveller will be required to do an antigen test on arrival at his or her own cost and in the event of a traveller testing positive for Covid-19, he or she will be required to isolate him or herself at his or her own cost, for a period of 10 days. Daily commuters from neighbouring countries, including for school and teaching, are required to adhere to Covid-19 protocols, including: Covid-19 screening and quarantine where necessary; the wearing of a face mask; sanitisation and social distancing measures. International travel is restricted to the following airports: OR Tambo International Airport; King Shaka International Airport; Cape Town International Airport.
“This rapid antigen test is a nasopharyngeal test which provides results in approximately 15 minutes and will reveal if a person is currently infected with the Covid-19 pathogen, this test is provided at the Dis-Chem Airport sites at OR Tambo and Cape Town International Airports. Rapid antibody testing and PCR swab tests are also available at these airport testing sites that are currently operational from 08h00 to 17h00 daily but hours may be extended as more international flights become available,” said Dis-Chem in a statement.
According to Dis-Chem’s website, Covid –19 Rapid Antigen Testing is useful for detection of Covid-19 active infection. Rapid Antigen test should be done especially when access to PCR testing is limited. It will be used to triage suspect cases, confirm active infection and contact tracing. The fee for the Rapid Antigen test is R350.00 and results are available within 15 minutes.
