South African Fintech SpaceMatch Launches New Online Marketplace

South African Fintech SpaceMatch Launches New Online Marketplace. Johannesburg-based tech start-up SpaceMatch has created an online marketplace for the rental of retail, event, pop-up, and exhibition space in South Africa. Kevin Singer, CEO of SpaceMatch told Venture Burn that, “Think about it as a matchmaking service for landlords and tenants that offers the convenience of Airbnb. Retail is an industry in flux and SpaceMatch is entering the market to provide a new platform for landlords to find tenants and vice versa.”

Its goal is to connect brands, online stores and artists with space owners for short- term rentals, pop-up stores and events in South Africa. Renting a space on SpaceMatch is so easy. With hundreds of listings to choose from, clients can browse spaces and send as many enquiries as they would like for free. The platform offers full flexibility to meet the clients’ needs and get them started.

From small scale artisans to big brands, the company aims to build a community that has access to a marketplace of spaces that can bring ideas to life. It celebrates the entrepreneurial spirit of South Africans and wants to be a resource that creates opportunity. Space Users can open a pop-up shop at a fraction of the cost of a traditional store and can set up in days rather than months.

SpaceMatch is a platform that allows Space Owners to list their vacant properties or sites and potential Space Users to apply to rent those sites. SpaceMatch allows thousands of potential tenants to review and compare many rental options over shorter time periods.

According to Venture Burn, the platform has over 120 properties listed and includes property giants such as Growthpoint, Zenprop, and more. The start-up aims to grow its listed portfolio to 1000 properties by the middle of this year. With the global pandemic and shifting trends in rental, retail markets have taken a blow and SpaceMatch has created an innovative solution to offer a financial reprieve for landlords and space owners.
