This Is How Much Kanye West’s Nike Air Yeezy 1’s Are Set To Be Sold For. A pair of Kanye West’s first Nike Yeezy sneakers, which he debuted on stage at the Grammys are to be sold, with Sotheby’s predicting the shoes could fetch in excess of $1 million. The Nike Air Yeezy 1 sneakers are part of a private sale — which means neither the final price nor the buyer will be released unless the individual comes forward.
According to Yahoo News, Nike had only worked with athletes and West’s shoe was a significant break for the US brand. The Air Yeezy 1 launched in a limited series in 2009, followed by the Air Yeezy 2 in 2012. The following year, West ended his partnership with Nike, deeming his share of the revenue insufficient, going on to work with Adidas in 2014. The sneakers, which are being sold by shoe collector Ryan Chang, will be on display in Hong Kong from April 16.
Kanye Omari West is an American rapper, record producer, fashion designer, and politician. He has been influential in the 21st-century development of mainstream hip hop and popular music in general. Born in Atlanta and raised in Chicago, West gained notoriety as a producer for Roc-A-Fella Records in the early 2000s, producing singles for several mainstream artists. Intent on pursuing a solo career as a rapper, West released his debut album The College Dropout in 2004 to critical and commercial success, and founded the record label GOOD Music.
As a fashion designer, he has collaborated with Nike, Louis Vuitton, and A.P.C. on both clothing and footwear, and has most prominently resulted in the Yeezy collaboration with Adidas beginning in 2013. The Nike Air Yeezy was developed from 2007 to 2009 by Kanye West, Nike Creative Director Mark Smith and later Nathan Van Hook. Kanye has spoken very highly of Smith as both a collaborator and designer, and Smith has said the same of Kanye, stating that he is “a truly creative talent” and a “natural designer.”
The Nike Air Yeezy is an official sneakers collaboration project between Nike and Kanye West, launched in 2009. Notable as the shoe brand’s first non-athlete full collaboration, the project has released two editions: the “Air Yeezy” (2009) and the “Air Yeezy II” (2012 and 2014).
