SA Farmer Mhlengi Ngcobo Reflects On His Social Entrepreneurship Award From The KZN Youth Business Awards

SA Farmer Mhlengi Ngcobo Reflects On His Social Entrepreneurship Award From The KZN Youth Business Awards. In an interview with SABC News, South African farmer Mhlengi Ngcobo reflected on his social entrepreneurship award he won at the KZN Youth Business Awards. Winning an award is something that a lot of people hold in high regard as this means that people acknowledge the work that one is doing and the impact they are having in their particular field.

Ngcobo said, “I was awarded for the work that I do for the underprivileged communities whereby I train the youth and women that come from these communities based on agricultural skills so that we can curve the high rising number of substance abuse, crime, unemployment and also teenage pregnancy.”

He continued to say, “As young innovative and capable youth we should be thinking outside the box, we also have to understand that our world is gradually shifting from degree and qualifications, it is now more about what you can bring to the table. Even if you have a particular qualification, roll your sleeves up and put your qualifications on the side and hustle so that we can start businesses and change the underprivileged communities. We are at the stage where we can create our own opportunities by utilising the skills or information we have acquired from tertiary institutions.”

Mhlengi is a young entrepreneur that realised that getting an award is good as the work is being recognised but he aims to focus more on giving back to the community to make sure that he doesn’t only grow alone in business but he brings other like minded individuals to grow with him. He puts in the work and assists underprivileged individuals and communities so that their mind-sets can change, when their mind-sets are changed they will be able to identify business opportunities from the formal education they received and not only depend on getting jobs with them.
