Local Fashion Designer Lukhanyo Mdingi Has Been Announced As One Of The LVMH Prize Winners. South African designer Lukhanyo Mdingi has been announced as one of the three winners of the Karl Lagerfeld 2021 LVMH Prize. This award is awarded to young fashion designers that offer innovative quality designs that will better the fashion industry.

In his acceptance speech, Mdingi emphasised the importance of working together and the power it brings compared to when one is working alone. He sees the award as a reward to his team for working together to create designs that can be recognised in such award shows. By collaborating with other communities the Lukhanyo Mdingi fashion label aims to build a bridge by bringing their heritage to timeless premium pieces while providing a platform to support, through continuous work and awareness.

Since its inception in 2015, the label has attracted the attention for exclusives from VOGUE ITALIA, NATAAL & I.D. Furthermore showcasing on notable platforms such as The British Fashion Council: International Fashion Showcase, PITTI UOMO IMMAGINE – Generation Africa and The CFDA: New York Fashion Week – Men’s. This latest recognition by the LVMH Prize goes to show the hard work that that the label has put in over the years, with this trajectory Lukhanyo Mdingi is set to be more successful in business as this may attract certain brands that are keen on collaborating.

Driven by a “passion for creativity”, LVMH launched in 2013 the LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers. This patronage embodies the commitment of the group and its houses towards today’s young designers who will be tomorrow’s rising stars.
