SA Entrepreneur Mabel Dikobe Shares Why Teaching Farming At Schools Should Be Prioritised. In an interview with Farmer’s Weekly, South African entrepreneur and farmer Mabel Dikobe shared why teaching farming at schools should be prioritised. She believes kids will be able to understand what farming is and why role it plays in society.
Dikobe wants schools to prioritise teaching kids about farming in schools, this way the kids will be exposed to the industry and how it works at a young age. This knowledge may assist them in taking a decision of whether or not they need to venture in the industry or not. By choosing to venture into the farming industry, these kids will be contributing to the state of food supply in the country. By understanding the importance of farming, the kids will see farming in a different manner and therefore consider to venture in it and make a difference in their communities.
“It’s sad that so few schools participate in vegetable gardening these days. This needs to be revived so children grow up with a better understanding of the importance of food and farming,” says Dikobe. Dikobe runs her ow farm and she has made sure that she also get her own kids involved in farming. Her youngest daughter is also a farmer and Dikobe support.
This also shows that Dikobe is passionate about farming as aims to make sure that the communities realise that farming isn’t t just something that can be done by people who already have a lot of money or corporations. This way they will also be able to start small and work to make sure that their farm grows. This is also a sustainable business to go into as it will not only provide food but it will also provide income that can be used for other household expenses.
