Lactalis SA Officially Opens Evaporator Dryer Plant

Lactalis SA Officially Opens Evaporator Dryer Plant. Lactalis SA has announced the official inauguration of its Evaporator Dryer Plant at its cheese factory in Bonnievale, Western Cape.

The Bonnievale plant is one of the largest cheese factories on the African continent and provides employment to more than 800 people. This investment of R140 million demonstrates the continued commitment by Group Lactalis to strengthen our business in South Africa and the town of Bonnievale.

The official opening ceremony was attended by the provincial MEC for Economic Development and Tourism: MEC Mireille Wenger, MEC for Agriculture: Dr Ivan Meyer and the Mayor of Langeberg – Alderman Schalk van Eeden; local and national government stakeholders. The event was also attended by the company’s Group Leadership team from France. Lactalis South Africa (LSA) was registered in South Africa in 2020. Although the name change from Parmalat SA only came into effect on 1 February 2020, the company under its previous name had been part of the Lactalis Group since 2011.

The new evaporator plant (dryer) will significantly boost skimmed milk production. Skimmed Milk Powder (SMP) is a versatile ingredient that is used in a range of food products. These include baked goods, confectionery, dairy products, and processed foods. It is also used as a nutritional supplement and contains essential nutrients such as protein and calcium.
