The PSL And Motsepe Foundation Announce A Partnership That Will See The National First Division Renamed To The Motsepe Foundation Championship. The PSL took to Twitter to announce that it has partnered with The Motsepe Foundation, this partnership will see The National First Division renamed to The Motsepe Foundation Championship.

Dr Irvin Khoza said in a statement: “I want to thank the Motsepe Foundation, Dr Patrice Motsepe, and Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe. I also want to thank the outgoing Sponsor (GladAfrica) for their contribution. We are grateful to the Motsepe Foundation for contributing to the sustainability and promotion of South African football. I am excited that my urgent request for support was accepted and activated at short notice. I knew that Dr Motsepe would be departing on Friday night for the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and we wanted to conclude and launch the Motsepe Foundation Championship before his departure.”

The Motsepe Foundation was founded in 1999 by Mr Patrice Motsepe and Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe. In 2013 the Motsepe family were the first on the African continent to join the Giving Pledge, started by Bill and Melinda Gates and Warren Buffet. The Foundation was founded on the philosophy of ‘ubuntu’, the African concept of giving and caring for your neighbour and other members of your community.

Dr Patrice Motsepe said in a statement, “We would like to thank the PSL and it’s Chairman Dr Khoza for his relentless efforts to attract sponsors and partners to the PSL. It is an honour for the Motsepe Foundation to make a humble contribution to the development and growth of South African football and to make it amongst the best in Africa and globallly.”
