How Geleza Tech Aims To Make Calculators Easily Available To Learners. Geleza is a startup that seeks to provide access to quality educational products. The name Geleza is a street language name, meaning “Go to school,” the name is befitting as it is for a calculator that came as a solution to South African calculator crisis with many learners in schools without calculators.
In 2021, The Founder, Mothupi Kgopa, was teaching Grade 10 learners in Burgersfort and half the learners did not have calculators. Mothupi then set out on a mission to solve this crisis not only for that community but for Africa as a whole. That idea brought about Geleza Scientific Calculator. Kgopa is a mathematician and has played a key role in getting many schools achieve 100% in mathematics in Free State and has mentored and trained mathematics teachers in Free State, Limpopo, Gauteng, Northern Cape and Western Cape.
Geleza Tech has since added more products in it’s product development including stationery, teaching and learning aids, and printing services that will make “Geleza Store” fully furnished printing store. The printing and copy part of the store will offer bulk printing, books, business name tag, banner and house plan printing.
The store serves as a distribution network and extension of the vision to have Geleza education products and teaching aids reach all corners of Africa. The stores are also underpinned by the company’s manufacturing division that was launched in September 2022 with the manufacturing of chalks and pencils with other educational products due to be manufactured in the 2023 – 2024 financial year.
