Money, Legacy, and Life Lessons: Mpoomy Ledwaba & 1Life Bring Candid Conversations to Johannesburg

Following a moving and impactful session in Cape Town, 1Life Insurance and wellness advocate Mpoomy Ledwaba are taking their powerful Life Changing Lessons event to Johannesburg on 14 June 2025. This initiative is all about breaking the silence around financial planning and encouraging honest conversations about money, loss, and legacy.

The concept stems from research by 1Life Insurance, revealing that while 53% of South Africans feel uneasy talking about financial planning—especially around topics like death—an encouraging 73% admit that such discussions are necessary for future planning. This contrast inspired the creation of campaigns like 1Last Message and Let’s Talk 1-to-1, where real policyholders opened up about how their life cover brought peace of mind in times of grief.

Enter Mpoomy Ledwaba—a perfect partner for this mission. Known for her authenticity and commitment to wellness in all forms, she brings a relatable, heartfelt approach to conversations that many find difficult to have.

“We believe real, meaningful dialogue can shift mindsets,” says Siphelele Sokhela, Brand Manager at 1Life. “In Cape Town, people shared deeply personal stories, and Mpoomy’s presence helped make those conversations feel genuine and safe. That’s what made the event so impactful.”

One of those powerful moments came from her husband, Branden Praise, who spoke openly about their own financial journey. With humour and vulnerability, he highlighted how many of us avoid insurance talks and scroll past financial content online—yet these conversations are the ones that truly matter.

Sokhela adds, “It wasn’t about selling a product. It was about awareness. About helping people face their financial truths in a way that feels accessible and human.”

A unique element of the Life Changing Lessons event is its exclusive access approach. Rather than selling tickets, attendees simply need to get an obligation-free funeral cover quote. It’s a simple step, but one that encourages real engagement with the costs and realities of planning for the future.

“We wanted the experience to start before the event,” Sokhela explains. “Getting a quote gives people clarity—and often surprises them with how affordable funeral cover can be. It’s a small step with big impact.”

With Cape Town still buzzing from the energy of the last event, Johannesburg is set to host another unforgettable day of connection, insight, and inspiration. The goal? Empower South Africans to approach financial planning with confidence and clarity—one conversation at a time.
