Netstar Puts R500K Behind Digital Skills Development with Redtank ICT Academy

In a powerful move to help bridge South Africa’s digital divide, Netstar (a proud subsidiary of Altron) has donated R500 000 to Redtank ICT Academy NPC — a non-profit changing lives by teaching real-world tech skills to underserved communities.

Let’s face it: in today’s world, knowing how to navigate the digital space isn’t a nice-to-have — it’s essential. But for far too many South Africans, especially in rural or marginalised areas, access to tech education is still out of reach. That’s where Redtank steps in, and now, with Netstar’s support, their mission is getting a major boost.

Redtank is all about opening doors — especially for young people, women, and persons living with disabilities who’ve historically been left out of the tech conversation. Their hands-on ICT training doesn’t just teach people how to use tech — it equips them with the skills to land jobs, start businesses, and fully participate in a digital world.

“Netstar believes in activating innovation to uplift communities,” says Jeandre Koen, Managing Director of Netstar South Africa. “This donation reflects our mission to help build a future where everyone has the digital tools and skills to succeed.”

Redtank was founded to address the real-world gap caused by South Africa’s slow start with the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR). As tech keeps evolving, it’s crucial that no one gets left behind — and that’s exactly what Redtank is preventing through practical training that meets industry needs.

Their programmes align perfectly with Netstar’s broader commitment to social impact — from education and employment to digital inclusion at the grassroots level.

“We’re proud to work alongside organisations like Netstar that genuinely care about creating access and opportunities,” says Sydney Mokhethi, CEO of Redtank Academy. “They’re not just ticking a box — they’re investing in real change.”

The R500K donation will help expand Redtank’s reach, fund more digital training programmes, and open up new access points for learning in underserved communities. It’s all about long-term impact — and making sure South Africa’s digital future is inclusive, connected and competitive.
