I had to develop so I could build my own legacy,” she once reflected.

While still employed, Nomalanga decided to pursue her creative interests. She enrolled at the SA School of Weddings for a course in Events Styling and Flower Arrangements. The program required students to register their own companies, a step that would unknowingly plant the seed for her first venture.
By 2016, she was running small events on the side, balancing corporate life with her growing passion for entrepreneurship. Two years later, driven by faith and determination, she made the bold decision to resign and take her business full-time. It was a pivotal turning point.
Her company, Amalanga Creations and Events Planning, quickly gained traction among clients who admired her meticulous attention to detail and elegant designs. Every event she managed carried her signature: thoughtful, organized, and memorable.
When the World Stopped: Reinventing After COVID-19
Then came 2020. The global pandemic shut down events across South Africa, and Amalanga Creations suffered major losses. Overnight, the business she had poured her heart into was at a standstill. Nomalanga was forced to return home and rethink her path.
But instead of giving up, she pivoted. She saw a new opportunity to make an impact in food production and sustainability. In 2021, alongside her business partner, she founded Neno Farming and Processing, a venture aimed at addressing food security challenges while empowering local communities.
This move wasn’t random. Two years earlier, in 2019, she had already taken a course in Crop Production at Buhle Farmers Academy, where she spent three months mastering farm management and vegetable cultivation. The skills she gained there became the foundation for her new business.
Resilience in the Face of Adversity
Just as things began to stabilize, tragedy struck again. While working to revive her catering business, Nomalanga lost all her equipment in a devastating house fire. “I was absolutely devastated. I felt there was no other option but to give up,” she recalled.
Yet, giving up was never truly an option for her. Out of the ashes, she found the strength to rebuild. Today, Nomalanga successfully manages two thriving businesses, Neno Farming and Processing, and Amalanga Creations and Events Planning.
Her farm, operating on a leased 9-hectare plot, supplies fresh produce to private clients, local vegetable markets, and even a Mini Pick ‘n Pay. Meanwhile, Amalanga Creations continues to cater for private and corporate events, proving that reinvention and resilience can coexist beautifully in one entrepreneurial spirit.
