City Lodge Hotels Expands EV Charging Network Across South Africa

City Lodge Hotels Expands EV Charging Network Across South Africa. City Lodge Hotels has introduced electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at eight of its properties across South Africa, offering travellers a convenient way to recharge their vehicles while on the road. The rollout forms part of the group’s ongoing efforts to enhance guest comfort and convenience while supporting more sustainable travel options.
Over the past two years, the hotel group has been installing Chargify EV charging stations at selected locations situated along key travel routes and in major urban centres. The charging points are designed to provide a straightforward experience for drivers of electric and hybrid vehicles.
According to City Lodge Hotels, the charging stations are compatible with all new electric vehicles sold in South Africa and operate using AC charging points, allowing guests to use their own cables. No booking is required, and users can plug in and charge during their stay or visit. Charging costs vary depending on battery size and the length of time a vehicle is connected.
The EV charging stations are available at the following properties:
In Gauteng: Courtyard Hotel Waterfall City, Courtyard Hotel Sandton, and City Lodge Hotel Lynnwood.
In the Free State: City Lodge Hotel Bloemfontein.
In KwaZulu-Natal: Town Lodge Umhlanga and Road Lodge Pietermaritzburg.
In the Eastern Cape: Courtyard Hotel Gqeberha.
In the Northern Cape: Road Lodge Kimberley.
Chief Operating Officer Lindiwe Sangweni-Siddo said the initiative reflects the group’s broader sustainability focus. “This initiative marks another significant step in our broader sustainability journey, ensuring we meet the evolving needs of today’s travellers while reducing our environmental footprint. Our focus has always been on making our guests’ stay easier and more comfortable. Introducing EV charging stations is yet another way we are elevating convenience while supporting sustainability across the group,” she said.
She added that the facilities are not limited to overnight guests. Visitors using meeting rooms or stopping by for meals or refreshments can also make use of the charging stations while accessing the hotels’ amenities, including complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi.
Chargify Chief Executive Officer Kgosi Diphokwane said the partnership supports the growth of EV infrastructure. “City Lodge Hotels’ partnering with Chargify allows guests to be at the forefront of the EV charging revolution, contributing to a greener and more sustainable future whilst advancing our ambition to be a trusted and reliable EV charging network in South Africa,” he said.
The expansion reflects increasing attention to electric mobility and the supporting infrastructure needed for road travel.
