Arts Funding Window Opens as NAC Invites Applications

Arts Funding Window Opens as NAC Invites Applications. The National Arts Council of South Africa has officially opened applications for its 2026 to 2027 Annual Project Funding programme, inviting artists and creative organisations across South Africa to apply for financial support for upcoming projects.

The funding call is open to practitioners working across a wide range of disciplines, including craft, dance, literature, music, theatre, musical theatre, visual arts, and multidisciplinary art forms. Individual artists, arts organisations, and community art centres are all eligible to apply.

According to the announcement, projects that celebrate indigenous South African art forms are strongly encouraged. Applications that include capacity building initiatives focused on intellectual property development are also welcomed as part of the submission process.

Prospective applicants can begin the process by visiting the NAC website at www.nac.org.za. Applications must be completed online through the organisation’s Grant Management System portal following registration.

For applicants who do not have internet access, manual submissions will be accepted at the NAC head office located in Newtown, Johannesburg.

The council has also made several communication channels available to support applicants who may require assistance. Enquiries can be directed via email at info@nac.org.za, through the call centre on 011 010 8886, or by WhatsApp on 060 791 5555.

The closing date for submissions is 13 March 2026. The council has confirmed that only one application per individual or organisation will be considered during this funding cycle.

Annual project funding from the NAC supports the development and presentation of creative work across the country. The programme provides a structured mechanism for artists and organisations to apply for financial assistance aimed at advancing creative production and cultural expression.

By opening the new funding cycle, the council continues its role in supporting artistic activity and project development across multiple creative disciplines. The call provides an opportunity for practitioners and organisations to submit proposals for projects planned within the 2026 to 2027 funding period.

Artists and creative institutions interested in applying are encouraged to review the application requirements and submit their proposals before the deadline. The funding programme forms part of the council’s ongoing support for creative work across diverse artistic fields.

Further details and application access are available on the NAC website. Applicants are encouraged to review submission guidelines carefully to ensure compliance with all requirements before completing their applications.
